Sabina
Sabina Bernardelli was born in Rome in 1982. Her interest in art started early on. In high school she developed her passion for drawing and watercolors. After obtaining a BA in Contemporary Art History from La Sapienza University of Rome , she devoted herself to art making. Her first step as a professional artist started in workshops where she moved from ceramics to glass incision, and finally to precious metals.
Since 2001 she has dedicated herself entirely to jewelry and currently works in her own atelier in Rome. She also teaches Contemporary Jewelry.
Work
Sabina Bernardelli's creations are the result of a series of apprenticeship in important craftsmanship workshops. Each piece is handcrafted using different techniques: micro-modeling in wax, etching , working on the banquette.
The combination of different materials (precious, semi-precious, unusual) along with a continuous technical and artistic experimentation, including original alloys, is one of the characteristics of Sabina's work.
The pieces are based on her interest in the goldsmith tardition, especially the Etruscan Florentine tradition, mixed with contemporary jewelry making. She has taken part in several exhibitions and also held solo shows in Rome, New York and Sydney. Some of her pieces are part of international collections, such as that of the Permanent Australian Contemporary Craft and Design.
